A Look into Jungkook’s Golden Age

By. Alicia Zamora

Member of K-pop group BTS, global sensation Jungkook is back at it again with yet another hit record. Jungkook, the youngest of the group, closed chapter two off with being the last to release his album. Around June during the Festa video, they announced that they would be doing solo activities while other members enlisted. By the way, every single member did impeccably when it came to releases. All of them were truly meant to become artists and performers.

After the release of his single “Seven” he later announced that he would be coming out with an album on November 3rd under the name “Golden.” This album was highly anticipated.

Diving right into it with track one, “3D”: Jungkook truly outdoes himself every single time. This was one of the pre-release tracks before the full album was released. He exceeded everyone's expectations but what can you expect from a global pop star sensation? Right off the bat, you could tell this would be a hit. It instantly takes you back to an early 2000s vibe. His angelic voice and the smooth melody blend so well together. It's as smooth as butter. These first five tracks all give lovey-dovey vibes.

A music video was released for this featuring Jack Harlow. All that can be said is that not only is Jungkook a musical genius but also a visual one. Everything was so on point. Just from watching the dance moves, the visuals, and the work of art that is his music, you get immersed immediately.

Moving on to the second track “Closer to You”. Wow. The first reaction of many. Without a doubt, Jungkook was truly meant to be a singer and performer. You can see how deeply rooted in his blood performing is. “Closer to You” was the set-off song for the whole album. This album was filled with different genres, beats, and vocal tones. Jungkook proves time and time to be golden and extremely talented. He hit every point to be number one on Billboard.

The third track “Seven (Explicit Ver.”) was released in early July. “Seven” was released as a single. This was the start of Jungkook’s new journey with his exploration of different genres. The collab of the century with Latto caught everyone's attention. The explicit version is a fan favorite. A music video was also released for this song.

The music video for Seven was chaotic yet so Jungkook-like. As you watch it you can instantly tell that Jungkook had a full artistic vision to it. You can see his goofy side shine through the music video.

Hitting it off with the fourth track, “Standing Next to You”: This song gives a dancy feel to it. This reminded me of a Michael Jackson-type vibe. Jungkook’s voice blends smoothly with the beat. You can hear more of his vocal tones in this one when he goes “You know it's deeper than the rain. It's deeper than the pain. When it's deep like DNA.” It instantly immerses you into the song. Considering that this is his first solo album of many more to come. Jungkook showed the world what he's made of outside of BTS.

A music video was also released for this. When it comes to outdoing people in terms of vocal range and choreography, he is successful every single time. The start of the music video starts off slowly but smoothly, then seeing how all the dancers including Jungkook himself start dancing more hardcore and with more power ties it all together. As the beat got louder the dancing got more powerful. The choreography truly shows how capable Jungkook is when it comes to putting on a show.

Track five, “Yes or No” is where more deep emotions get shown. It's where the album slowly starts to unwrap. The first half was more about chasing someone you love or expressing love. This one gave more of a confused lover type of vibe. The beat to this one is more on the quieter side and his vocal tone is a lot higher than the other tracks. This track in particular gives more of an early 2000s boy band sound, especially with the high vocals  Once again, his talent is fully being shown in this album. He went above and beyond preparing for this.

Track six, “Please Don’t Change” this track starts off with a low melody. No one can imagine how terrifying it was for the members to do solo activities when there used to being one as a group. Hearing this song made me think back to June 14, 2022, when the Festa video was dropped. They all had many fears and worries about what the future would hold for them and they did just fine. With Jungkook’s release of Golden, everyone can see how bright his future is. Not just as a soloist but as a group.

“Hate You” Track seven seems to show more of a vulnerable side of Jungkook. It reminded me of a track he deleted a while back that was under “Decalcomania”. It starts off with such a sad beat which instantly changes the vibe. You can see how he is slowly transitioning. It seems as if the story that is being told is after a breakup. “Hating you is the only way it doesn't hurt”. Mixed in with the piano in the background and hearing his low raspy voice really brings this track together. When it comes to music it’s easier said than done — you’re able to express what you can't seem to say out loud into music and you can see how Jungkook did it in this particular song.

Track eight, “Somebody” with this track it seems like it's the ending to his story from the previous track “Hate You”. It’s as if he's finally saying goodbye to his sorry old self during the dark path he was going through. “It’s time to let go,” as if he's letting his ex-partner know that she can’t find anyone better than him. His final goodbye and he made it a good one by ending it with “Oh, I hoped you’d find somebody. I hope you know that somebody ain’t me”. Perfectly ending it with a big nope I’m not coming back to you and you'll truly never find somebody like me.

With track nine being, “Too Sad to Dance”  is more of a pop song because of the guitar playing in the beginning and in the background throughout the song. Although the title is “Too Sad to Dance” it's not really a sad track. It's more of those upbeat ones that have a sad sentiment to it. The storyline is more about being lonely and trying to find companionship within yourself and those around you. Towards the end, it does get a little sad when he sings “So I called up my pops last night. He said, “By the morning light, you won’t need no more romance”. Tying it all together with the whistling in the background and the beat dropping slowly ties this track together.

“Shot Glass of Tears” being track ten sends you through a lot of emotions. This one starts off with a low melody blended in with a silent piano sound. It takes you through a shift because the track before this was a bit more poppy and then boom you feel the instant emotions switch with this one. Jungkook did a good job of showing emotions in this track. “This emotion I bottle. Need something strong for the sorrow”. This song is a personal favorite and it’s more like one of those songs that can get you through a bad day. One of those songs that you can listen to be like “Yeah I completely understand these feelings.” Overall this song was truly breathtaking. The way he can control his vocals going from a vocal tone to hitting high notes. Truly taken away from this whole album.

Ending it off with track eleven, “Seven (Clean Ver.)” the clean version of seven was the first official version to be dropped in July. With that came the explicit version and the remix versions. The explicit version is what most fans prefer but nevertheless, the clean version is just as fine. The beat is catchy and it's the type of song you can get up and dance to. Once again for this track, he showed how gifted he is when it comes to his voice. His vocal range for this was crazy. He hit those high notes so effortlessly.

Overall, you can see the endless hard work and dedication that was put into this album. Jungkook will forever and always hold the title of golden maknae. Whether it's as a solo act or group activity when 2025 hits armies will always have his back. With this album drop fans showed nothing but endless support. Proud is an understatement. From J-hope opening up the doors to chapter two of BTS, Jungkook is now closing those doors. Till we meet again in 2025. Everyones waiting! Borahae!
